The Douglas Atkins Scholarship Fund provides a unique opportunity to honor the impact of a great leader, and the visionary of The Janus School, Douglas Atkins. Donations to this fund are dedicated to making a Janus education more affordable by providing financial assistance to students with learning differences who face the difficult obstacle of tuition costs.

Donations to this fund are dedicated to making a Janus education more affordable by providing financial assistance to students with learning differences who face the difficult obstacle of tuition costs. Imagine a day when, because of our generous donors and supporters, the cost of a Janus education is no longer a barrier to families in Central PA.

Douglas Atkins began developing Janus’ concept in 1989 and served as the first executive director from 1991 to 2001. In his first year, the school had nine students. Over the next decade, he oversaw the construction of a new facility specifically designed for Janus students, as the population grew to 76 students in grades 1-12. During his time, The Janus School established a strong, educational philosophy and culture of inquiry and reflection, rising to the highest standards to meet the needs of students with learning differences.

Today, we are grateful for the strong foundation Atkins set for The Janus School, and we honor his impact by helping students have the opportunity to attend a school where they feel heard, connected, and can thrive.
